The participating Rotaractor was sponsored by the Director for Youth Affairs, Andy Chua of the Rotary Club of Intramuros and was accompanied by Rtn. Gigi Tupas who was also a head staffer of the said program.
Some of the activities of the Immersion program were: teaching the children of Libjo, Infanta, Quezon how to make bracelets and wind chimes for their livelihood project and the distribution of Rosaries and religious reading materials for their chatechism. And for recreation: swimming. The sea was litterally right at their doorstep.
In an interview with abstRACts, RAC-MIT President Soledad Gracio expressed her uncontained sense of fulfillment having attended the 5-day Program stating that serving at the community in Bgy. Libjo, Infanta, Quezon was a reward by itself.
Encouraging, all Rotaractors to experience the same feeling of gratification, another Immersion Program is set this summer of 2001
The RYLA Experience by: Rtr. Maui Pepito
The RYLA or Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is an annual event for the development of the Youth as a member of the family, as a contributor to the society and most especially as future leaders. This was effectively conveyed to the participants of the 2001 RYLA held last October 26-27, 2001 at the Villa Luz Resort in Silang, Cavite.
The event was a collection of different lessons on the different aspects of life. Most notable among the speakers are Vins Santiago who shared to us his personal experience on how to build a good foundation for the family and Dir. Socorro Jamias of the Rotarary Club of Intramuros who, with much expertise, totally gave a new perception on the term “career opportunities”.
Aside from the lessons gained at the RYLA, the games and group presentation was also very helpful in gaining new friends. The fellowship, which included dancing and swimming allowed both the Rotaractors and Rotarians to have fun and enjoy at the lovely Villa Luz Resort.
I was fortunate enough to be a participant in the 2001 RYLA and having been held during the enrollment days of most of my club members, I am also sad that it might take them another year to take part in the RYLA experience.
